Mommy Makeover. It’s Time to Do It. For You.‎

Cosmetic Clinic Dubai | 18 November 2019

The mommy makeover is one of today’s most popular combination plastic surgery techniques, designed specifically to address common issues faced by women who have been through pregnancy and breastfeeding. The surgical technique has found its way into mainstream media with it becoming the procedure of choice among Hollywood elite. “Mommy makeover” is a catch-all phrase that refers to a specialized combination of body contouring procedures, performed together to improve the physical changes that linger long after pregnancy. One reason for its popularity is that the mommy makeover has no set components; each procedure is custom-tailored to fit the individual patient’s unique needs. However, the surgical approach generally starts with a breast and abdomen contouring procedure, then adding additional elements as needed.

The components of a mommy makeover

As the breasts and abdomen are the primary areas of change with motherhood, a mommy makeover will often center around a breast and abdomen procedure. During pregnancy and breast-feeding, the breasts will also enlarge, increasing as much as a full cup size or more. However, returning back to ‘normal’ can mean a significant loss in breast volume and noticeable sagging. Throughout a pregnancy, the abdominal muscles, skin and tissues stretch to safely accommodate the growing baby. Unfortunately, after childbirth, these layers may not bounce back to their taut, pre-baby shape.

Your mommy makeover may include:

Breast Augmentation

Breast Lift

Breast Reduction

Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty

Liposuction

Breast implants can restore fullness and lost volume, while a breast lift helps to lift sagging skin for improving shape. Today’s breast augmentation is safer and more effective than ever before. For those with disproportionately large, uncomfortable breasts, a breast reduction surgery can create a smaller, more ideal appearance.

To further improve the figure, commonly added techniques can include the abdominoplasty (also known as a tummy tuck, a circumferential abdominoplasty and liposuction. However, women do not have to stop here; a mommy makeover can also include a thigh lift, arm lift or a Brazilian butt lift. Depending on the recommended set of procedures, a mommy makeover can be performed during one single operation, or for safety reasons, may be spread out over multiple surgical sessions.

Tummy tuck benefits and expectations

Abdominoplasty Dubai | 16 November 2019

A tummy tuck can help you to address what you don’t like about your abdominal area and correct these issues in creating a firmer, more toned stomach region. Women who have been pregnant tend to opt for this procedure as they feel as though their abdominal muscles have never regained the strength and tone they once had. They often also feel self-conscious about their tummy skin, which, after having a baby, has not returned to its once taught appearance.  However, the decision for this surgery is a personal one, and there are a variety of reasons why people have it done. Many people have explored other avenues such as dieting and exercise and found that they are unable to achieve a tighter and more toned tummy. The issue often lies in the bathroom scale showing weight has been lost, but the abdominal skin still appears stretched and saggy.

Should you get an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)?

The following is a list of reasons that can contribute to you being an ideal candidate for an abdominoplasty:

Pregnancy, weight loss and aging have resulted with excess skin on your abdomen and/or the muscles being weakened.

You are a non-smoker. Smoking can slow down the healing process and result in complications during and after surgery. If you do smoke, your surgeon will advise you to stop at least six weeks prior to surgery.

You are happy with your weight and it does not fluctuate. If you are slim but carry extra skin around the abdominal region, you are a good candidate for an abdominoplasty. Obese people are recommended against the surgery as it will not be as beneficial until they achieve a healthy body mass index (BMI).

If you carry excess amounts of fat around your abdominal organs your surgeon will suggest you lose weight before the surgery as extra fatty tissue can result in risks and complications during and after surgery.

You are in good physical health and shape.

You are past child-bearing age or do not plan to have any more children. There are specific abdominal muscles that can be tightened and repaired during the surgery, which can be undone during a pregnancy as your muscles move to accommodate the growing foetus.

You have stretch marks and flab that are not seeing improvement through diet and exercise.

You feel as though your belly sticks out and is unattractive.

Your stomach contour (shape) has resulted in your self-confidence taking a knock.

What are the considerations of a tummy tuck?

There are pros and cons to weigh up if you are considering having a tummy tuck, these are however dependent on your own reasons for having the procedure done. Your plastic surgeon is most likely to outline these for you during your first consultation. These are:

Pros

An abdominoplasty is able to restore a flabby abdominal area to a flat tummy.

You will feel and look better in swimming costumes and clothes.

Your body contour will be more youthful.

Cons

You will have a scar on your lower abdominal/pubic area.

Should you fall pregnant after the surgery, it may reverse the effects of the surgery.

Weight gain after the surgery will have negative effects on the results

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for a more youthful appearance

Blepharoplasty Dubai | 14 November 2019

Droopy eyelids are a major reason why some people consider eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to remove and tighten excess eyelid skin for a more alert, youthful appearance. Sometimes blepharoplasty also can improve your vision by providing a less obstructed field of view, once droopy eyelids are improved. Blepharoplasty can remove excess skin, muscle and sometimes fat from the upper or lower eyelids. In some cases, you might need only skin removed but not muscle — or you might need the procedure done on both upper and lower eyelids. An upper eyelid blepharoplasty (sometimes called an “eye lift”) should not be confused with upper eyelid ptosis surgery, which is a procedure to raise the position of the upper eyelid margin by tightening the muscle and tendon that normally elevate it. Blepharoplasty surgery sometimes can elevate an upper eyelid margin slightly if the heaviness of the excessive skin actually is “weighing down” the upper eyelid, causing it to droop.

What Is Cosmetic Blepharoplasty?

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure that is not medically necessary and is performed solely to improve your appearance. Unfortunately, your upper and sometimes lower eyelids may become droopy or baggy as part of the aging process. Your eyebrows also may sag or droop as a part of the same process. The eyelid skin stretches, muscles weaken and fat pockets become more prominent as they bulge. This may be a hereditary condition that runs in your family. Cosmetically, such conditions may detract from the overall attractiveness of your eyes and face and cause a tired or older appearance.

When Is Functional Blepharoplasty Needed?

A functional blepharoplasty (in contrast to a cosmetic blepharoplasty) is eyelid surgery performed for medical reasons. In most cases, a functional eye lift is performed to remove loose skin from the upper eyelid if it droops low enough to impair your vision for driving or other visual tasks. Another functional problem is difficulty wearing glasses or contact lenses, whether from baggy upper or lower eyelids. Other medical conditions that may require functional eyelid surgery include:

Irritation from excess folds of eyelid skin rubbing together.

Forehead discomfort from overused muscles that strain to lift sagging skin in the eyelid area.

As with cosmetic blepharoplasty, functional blepharoplasty most often is performed by ophthalmologists and oculoplastic surgeons.

Ptosis and Eyelid Surgery

Ptosis is the medical term for drooping of the upper eyelid — a condition that may affect one or both eyes. Ptosis that is present since birth is called congenital ptosis. Droopy eyelids in general occur when the edge of the upper eyelid (eyelid margin) falls from its normal position. When the edge of the eyelid falls too low and covers part of the pupil, it can block the upper part of your vision. In most cases, a drooping upper eyelid results from aging of previously normal structures. Typically, the tendon of the muscle responsible for lifting the eyelid stretches and the eyelid falls. Surgical correction of a drooping upper eyelid involves repairing the stretched tendon. It is not uncommon for a person to develop a droopy upper eyelid following cataract surgery or other eye surgeries because manipulation of the eyelid during a procedure can cause weakening of the muscle that holds the eye open. Stroke and trauma also can cause ptosis.

Who Are the Best Candidates for Eyelid Surgery?

If you don’t have a medical reason for a blepharoplasty procedure, you can discuss with your eye doctor any concerns or interest you might have regarding cosmetic eyelid surgery. You might consider blepharoplasty if you have excessive drooping and sagging of skin around eyes, which often is due to normal aging. Sagging skin also can be exaggerated when you have other conditions such as puffy eyes caused by eye allergies or edema.

More than just a cosmetic procedure – A ‘tummy tuck’ reduces back pain and incontinence

Abdominoplasty Dubai | 5 November 2019

In addition to restoring the pre-pregnancy shape of the abdomen, abdominoplasty (‘tummy tuck’) surgery with muscle repair can improve back pain and urinary incontinence after childbearing, reports a new study in “Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®.

Although abdominoplasty is classified as a cosmetic procedure, it also improves two of the most common physical complaints experienced by women after labor and delivery. According to the new research “Abdominoplasty has a proven functional benefit as well as a cosmetic benefit,” comments lead author D. Alastair Taylor, FRACS, of The CAPS Clinic in Deakin, Australia.

The study included 214 women undergoing abdominoplasty with repair of the abdominal muscles at nine Australian plastic surgery centers. Many women seek tummy tuck surgery to restore the shape and appearance of the abdomen after childbearing. The women’s average age was about 42 years, with an average of 2.5 deliveries.

Before and after surgery, the women completed questionnaires rating their disability from back pain and urinary incontinence: two very common problems after childbearing. In the preoperative questionnaires, about 51 percent of women had moderate to severe disability from back pain, while urinary incontinence was a “significant concern” for 42.5 percent.

On follow-up questionnaires at six weeks and six months, scores for both problems showed major improvement. At six months, only nine percent of patients still had moderate disability from back pain. Urinary incontinence remained a significant problem for less than two percent of women.

Scores for back pain continued to improve from six weeks to six months after abdominoplasty, while urinary incontinence improved no further after six weeks. The women underwent several different types of abdominoplasty surgery; the improvements in back pain and incontinence were similar regardless of the technique used.

Nearly 128,000 abdominoplasty procedures were performed in the United States in 2018, according to ASPS statistics. Tummy tuck is sometimes performed as part of “mommy makeovers” to restore the shape and appearance of a woman’s body after childbearing.

The new findings — including before-and-after measurements in a large group of plastic surgery patients — are consistent with previous case reports of improvement in back pain and urinary incontinence after abdominoplasty. These functional improvements may result from restoring strength and stability in the abdominal and pelvic region as the operation incorporates repair of the abdominal muscle separation (rectus diastasis) that can occur after pregnancy.

“By reducing the problems of back pain and incontinence, abdominoplasty with rectus repair leads to a better life for women after childbearing,” Dr. Taylor comments. He believes that health insurance plans should recognize that abdominoplasty has functional benefits, beyond the cosmetic improvement offered.

“The results demonstrate that tummy tucks do have functional benefits, as well as cosmetic ones, particularly in the postpartum population,” comments Editor-in-Chief Rod J. Rohrich, MD, in a featured video on the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery website. “If you are done having children, and still suffering from back pain or incontinence, you may consider an abdominoplasty as a surgical solution.”

UNDERARM SWEAT HOLDING YOU BACK?

Cosmetic Clinic Dubai | 1 November 2019

Many of us struggle daily from excessive sweating or embarrassing body odour despite showering daily. The embarrassment from those important moments when surrounded by friends, colleagues or on a first date. Sweating can affect relationships, how you perform at work, what clothes you choose to wear or the activities you do.

Hyperhydrosis treatment is one of the only non-surgical treatments available to alleviate underarm sweating. A lot of people suffer from excessive sweating, especially located under the arms, on the hand palm or under their feet. The solution is just few injections away. With botulinum toxin you can stop the production of sweat from these areas and reduce the hyperhidrosis effect for at least 5 months. The treatment is quick, but sometimes needs local anesthesia to relieve the pain, especially in the palms and under the feet.

Don’t I need to sweat?

We have over 2 million sweat glands throughout our bodies and only 2% are located in the underarms. This means you will continue to perspire, allowing your body to cool down, even while exercising or in a hot environment.

What results can I expect?

Most patients can expect a dramatic and permanent reduction in underarm sweat. In a recent clinical trial, the average underarm reduction in sweat was 82%. Patients typically experience a noticeable difference immediately after treatment although results can vary.

Goodbye sweat, Goodbye smells, Goodbye stains!

When to consider a Tummy Tuck

Cosmetic Clinic Dubai | 30 October 2019

After pregnancy or weight loss, excess skin and fat can distort the appearance of the abdomen. In particular, many women find that after their second child or after bearing twins, their muscles and skin do not return to their original appearance secondary to repeated stretch of the abdomen. The abdominoplasty, or “tummy tuck” procedure, creates a flatter, firmer abdomen by removing excess fat and skin, and tightening the abdominal muscles. You are a good candidate for a tummy tuck if you are at a stable weight and are physically healthy, you have realistic expectations, and you do not smoke.

Anatomy of the Abdomen

The abdominal wall consists of skin, fat, and muscle. The rectus abdominis muscles, whichform the “six pack” of muscles on the abdomen, are covered by a firm sheath called the rectus fascia. This fascial layer frequently weakens and stretches out with pregnancy and weight gain. As a result, once a patient loses weight or has her children, she may be left with laxity of the abdominal wall. During surgery , the fascial layer over the rectus abdominis muscles is tightened, and the excess skin and fat are removed.

 Tummy Tuck steps

The abdominoplasty procedure is performed with a horizontal incision in the lower abdomen within the bikini line. In patients who have undergone a prior C-section, the incision can be made in the same location and extended to the sides. The rectus abdominis muscles of the abdomen are tightened, and the excess skin and fat are trimmed and redraped. Most abdominoplasty surgeries require repositioning of the umbilicus, or navel through a second incision. In the “mini” abdominoplasty procedure, lower abdominal muscle tightening with fat and skin removal are performed through a limited horizontal bikini incision only, without repositioning of the navel. The resulting scar is usually low on the abdomen, and therefore can be concealed within most bathing suits and clothing. Small drain tubes are placed with both techniques.

What is a Breast Lift?

Cosmetic Clinic Dubai | 28 October 2019

For most of my patients, planning breast augmentation surgery is fairly straightforward. However, if you are older (over 40), have had multiple pregnancies, or have lost a significant amount of weight, you may need to plan for a breast lift as well.

If a patient has minimal breast sag and minimal excess (but good quality) skin, then implants alone can provide the lift needed without additional surgical lifting. This is particularly true when the implants are being placed below the muscle. If the patient has minimal sagging, then placing the implant under the breast will ensure perky, natural and firm results.

If the patient has poor skin quality, stretch marks, too much sagging skin, low-resting nipples, or there appears to be a disengagement between the skin, gland, and chest wall, then a lift is mandatory to achieve the best cosmetic outcome. While most women who fall into these categories are older, some young women do as well. If you have had multiple pregnancies, chances are high that the repeated expansion and contraction of the breast tissue has resulted in loose skin, stretch marks, and the loss of breast volume (especially in the upper portion of the breast). Women under 40 who have lost a significant amount of weight also frequently struggle with flat, drooping breasts. If you have battled obesity in the past, you will almost certainly need a breast lift along with implants.

Some surgeons avoid combining breast lift and augmentation surgery owing to the added complexity this represents, but in the long run, mastopexy augmentation tends to be less stressful and more cost-effective. Combining breast lift and breast augmentation into one single procedure is easier for the patient and more likely to result in a successful outcome.

NON-SURGICAL EYELID TREATMENTS

Cosmetic Clinic Dubai | 26 October 2019

Eyes are the most sensitive area of the face, which makes many people reluctant to choose a plastic surgery procedure for eyelid rejuvenation. However, such patients can still achieve eyelid enhancement with non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

Customization

Aging effects appearing on the delicate skin around and below the eyes can be gently and precisely treated with a customized combination of non-surgical eyelid rejuvenation treatments. Eye bags and dark circles under the eyes can be address most effectively with these procedures. Patients can choose between plastic surgery and non-surgical eye rejuvenation procedures in order to meet their personal cosmetic goals.

Injectable Fillers

As part of a personalized eye rejuvenation procedure, the doctor will precisely inject dermal filler gel such as Belotero Balance or Restylane to fill the tear trough area, and mitigate the appearance of dark circles and under eye bags. The mid-face contours may be enhanced at the same time to create more harmonized outcomes.

PRP Therapy

The second part of a treatment can involve advanced platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy to rejuvenate the eye area. The doctor will draw a small amount of blood from the patient’s body. This blood will be purified and PRP growth factors will be separated. The doctor will then carefully inject the PRP growth factors into targeted areas to achieve natural looking eyelid rejuvenation. The PRP growth factors will work to stimulate the production of fresh collagen and blood vessels in the treated areas. The natural process of skin repair and rejuvenation from the inside will be triggered. The complete dermal filler and PRP injection procedure can be performed in-clinic using only a topical numbing cream at the injection sites.

Recovery

Non-surgical eye rejuvenation procedure with fillers and PRP therapy may cause mild bruising and swelling in the treated areas. This will fade quickly, and most patients can return to their normal work routine the same day.

The improvement in under eye bags and dark circles can be readily noticed, while the results will continue to improve over the next few months as the body completes the healing process set off with the PRP therapy. Patients can expect to enjoy the results for as long as two years in some cases.

RF Treatment

Small wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes and mild loss of skin elasticity in the area can be corrected with  radio frequency (RF) energy treatments. RF procedure may be performed separately or combined with other eyelid rejuvenation techniques. RF energy will gently and naturally restore volume to the depleted tissues and help create smoother and firmer skin around the eyelid area.
